Photo Guide

For an accurate portrait of your pet's personality, high-quality reference photos are crucial. Choose photos that reflect your pet's personality and consider technical aspects.

Your pet's personality

Capture your pet's unique traits in their portrait to accurately depict their likeness.

Good Lighting

Good lighting is important for pet photography. Use natural daylight to capture true colours of fur. Indoors, take photos near a large window or good source of natural light.

Angles & poses

Please send me photos of your pet from different angles to help me get a complete image. For best results, take photos at eye level with your pet to avoid the "large head, small body" perspective. The pose you choose should reflect your pet's personality and highlight their unique features.

Examples of bad lighting and poses

I would have difficulty working with photos that have low resolution, poor lighting, or are out of focus. Here are some examples.

More than one pet in your portrait
If you're fortunate enough, you might have a photo that showcases all your pets perfectly. However, it's usually challenging to capture each pet flawlessly in a single photo. Fortunately, I can create a combined portrait using separate individual photos of each pet, provided they meet the criteria listed below. I will only be able to offer multiple pets on canvases sized 12" x 16" or larger.
Perspective

Please ensure that the photos of each pet you provide are taken from a similar perspective. If one pet's photo is taken from a low and another pet's photo is taken from a high angle, they won't work together in the same portrait. It would be ideal if both photos were taken from the same angle either low or high.

Lighting Direction

For a more cohesive portrait, ensure that the light source is consistent for each pet. Combining photos of pets with different light sources, such as one with light from the right and with light from the left, may result in an unusual appearance.
